"I am very pleased to see the plans for Brune Medical Centre coming to fruition. This has been achieved through a partnership between the GP practice, the Hampshire PCT and our development partners, Solent Community Solutions, working closely together and I look forward to the opening of the new Primary Care Centre next autumn.”

The 915 sq m £2.5 million development of Brune Medical Centre, Rowner, will provide much needed new accommodation to replace an existing cramped and inefficient GP premises located nearby.

Accommodating 4-6 GPs, a two surgery NHS dental practice and a private sector provided pharmacy the new medical centre, with a GP practice list of some 6,700 patients, is seen as being instrumental in bringing together a range of primary healthcare professionals within a single premises to support and enhance the delivery of primary care services within the community.

Inger Hebden, Director of Capital Planning, Hampshire PCT (South East) said: “I am very pleased to see the plans for Brune Medical Centre coming to fruition. This has been achieved through a partnership between the GP practice, the Hampshire PCT and our development partners, Solent Community Solutions, working closely together and I look forward to the opening of the new Primary Care Centre next autumn.”

With a population of circa 23,500, the Rowner area was formerly a Ministry of Defence housing estate with a variety of dwelling types.

It is now designated as a Single Regeneration Budget area, parts of which have a high ratio of deprivation and high turnover of families living in the area. The demography is such that the patient group comprises of a high proportion of young people, single mothers from service families and people of all ages suffering the chronic effects of social deprivation.

As such, the Brune Centre will be seen as a welcome addition to the community providing much-needed services for a range of requirements.

This development is one of several tranche 1 schemes to be undertaken by Solent Community Solutions Ltd as part of its Public Private Partnership agreement with East Hampshire and Fareham & Gosport PCTs and will support delivery of the following services:

  • A family based GP practice
  • NHS dental services
  • Practice Nurse training
  • Mental health counseling
  • Chronic disease management
  • Cervical smear screening
  • Immunisation clinics
  • Minor surgery
  • Community pharmacy

Solent Community Solutions Limited will be responsible for the Whole Life Cost (hard FM and life cycle costs) of the facility and Tenants for internal cleaning etc (Soft FM).
