Serving circa 45,000 patient per annum The Hanley Road Centre, Islington, opened on time and to budget in March 2005. Created through the refurbishment and extension of a two-storey 1980s Council Neighbourhood office it is part of a £6.1 million development that includes the Bingfield Primary Care Centre.
Housing a new GP surgery along with an extensive range of other healthcare facilities, this centre has been purpose-built to provide improved services to cater for the growing needs of patients in this part of Islington.

As well as the new GP practice, which will focus on providing services for the elderly, people with mental health problems and refugees, the centre also supports PCT services along with some appropriate voluntary sector advice services.
This is one of a series of developments planned for the London Boroughs of Camden and Islington to enhance the health and well-being of patients and staff, whilst being flexible and adaptable in order to meet the future demands of community-based health and social care.
It is part of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement between Community Solutions for Primary Care (CSPC), Partnerships for Health (PfH), Camden Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Islington PCT.
The ‘LIFTCo’ that was formed as a result of this agreement (Camden & Islington Community Solutions Limited) has entered int a 25 year Lease Plus Agreement with Islington PCT for the facilities,
which include:
- 546 sq. m. of accommodation space
- Four GP consulting rooms, two treatment rooms, two interview rooms and general utility areas
- A practice manager’s office and a general office for two administrative staff
- A Child Health room adjacent to the waiting area, including nappy changing facilities, and a waiting area with a children’s play space
- A reception and medical records area and an office for six community nurses, with associated storage and filing space
- Education and staff development facilities, including a staff room, a well-equipped kitchen and a meeting room that can also be used as a teaching room
- Space for a welfare advice service used on a sessional basis
Camden & Islington Community Solutions Limited is responsible for the maintenance of external and internal fabric of the facility (Hard FM), with the tenant being responsible for internal cleaning etc (Soft FM).
