"For too long Camden and Islington have suffered with inadequate facilities. All of this is now set to change. The project at Bingfield Street is one of six already identified for the first tranche of schemes. There will be many more to come in the future, transforming the quality and availability of primary care for patients in Camden and Islington.”
The Bingfield Primary Care Centre, which houses an extensive range of healthcare facilities along with two GP practices that serve some 12,000 patients, has been purpose-built to provide improved services to cater for the growing needs of patients in this part of Islington as well as acting as a resource centre for other GP practices in the surrounding area.
Developed on land previously occupied by a community hall, the new centre is part of a £6.1 million development that also includes the Hanley Primary Care Centre opened in June 2005. Consultation and engagement with stakeholders, throughout all phases of the development process, has been key to understanding and integrating local needs and Priorities.
Health Minister, John Hutton, said: “For too long Camden and Islington have suffered with inadequate facilities. All of this is now set to change. The project at Bingfield Street is one of six already identified for the first tranche of schemes. There will be many more to come in the future, transforming the quality and availability of primary care for patients in Camden and Islington.”
This series of planned developments for the London Boroughs of Camden and Islington aim to enhance the health and well-being of patients and staff, while being flexible and adaptable in order to meet the changing demands of community-based health and social care and other local services.
It is part of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement between Community Solutions for Primary Care (CSPC), Partnerships for Health (PfH), Camden Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Islington PCT.
The ‘LIFTCo’ that was formed as a result of this agreement (Camden & Islington Community Solutions Limited) has entered into a 25 year Lease Plus Agreement with Islington PCT for the facilities, which include:
- 915 sq. m. of accommodation space
- The Flinders and Haffiz practices including some of the following: consulting rooms, treatment room for nurse practitioners, a minor suite for invasive surgery, practice manager’s offices and space for staff
