Slough Community Benefits

At Slough Urban Renewal (SUR), we are committed to supporting the young people who live and learn in and around Slough. Community engagement is a huge area of focus for us and we are honoured to have had the opportunity to engage and support, so many young people within the town.

Last month, we were delighted to have reached a significant milestone as we have now engaged with over 14,000 school pupils since the start of our joint venture in Slough.

These interactions have ranged from participating in careers fairs to simulated careers guidance activities, careers Q&A sessions, site visits, speed networking careers events, sponsored taster days, BTEC training courses and work experience placements. Through these various initiatives we have helped to support young people in early careers planning, while providing them with an opportunity to get a real insight into the varied and exciting opportunities that a future career in construction can offer.

At SUR we believe that we are unique in having a dedicated Community Benefits, Skills and Training Co-ordinator employed on a full time basis. In this role, I engage with the Council and third parties, organising events and initiatives and monitoring and reporting on all community activities to the SUR board.

I assist our contractors and our wider supply chain across a host of skills and training activities from arranging work experience placements, to co-ordinating apprenticeship vacancies and careers and curriculum activities. The role encompasses a broad range of activities from participating in Careers Fairs, Employer Insight Days, School Mock Interview Days and Work Ready Sessions, to conducting Apprenticeship Searches and organising Community Events.

Through our development activity, Slough Urban Renewal aims to make a difference to the residents of Slough by supporting community initiatives and events and providing additional employment, skills and training opportunities within the town.
